You shouldn't take this contraceptive if your blood pressure readings are consistently 140/90 mmHg or higher. Combined pills increase the risk of stroke and blood clots in patients with hypertension. Your GP will check your blood pressure at least once a year to ensure it's safe for you to continue the prescription or if an alternative is needed.
